I’ve been meaning to share the sauce recipe below for homemade pizza. You can make it ahead of time or make it and use it right away. I’ve also included a link to the Blind Dog Pizza website. Its creator is a genius. He’s a baker for the bread bakery at the local co-op and he makes pizza easy and tasty.
His website features all of his crust and sauce recipes and they’re all free. I highly recommend bookmarking his site. Just remember most of his dough needs to be made a day in advance.
1 14 oz can tomato sauce
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon oregano
1 teaspoon black pepper
Start with the tomato sauce. Add the salt, sugar, oregano and pepper and simmer the sauce on a low heat, stirring occasionally. Let the sauce simmer for about an hour. Then, combine the sauce with the canned tomatoes. If you would like a smoother texture to the sauce, puree the tomatoes beforehand. The advantage of this method is that you get the enhanced flavor from a long simmer while at the same time preserving the freshness of the tomatoes.
