Bacon Fried Rice

I found this recipe will browsing the side dish section of the Kansas City BBQ Society website. The site says it makes a great side dish for any BBQ. I think if you add a few shrimp and some peas you’ve got a classic stir fry on your hands…and a possible main course.


2 cups uncooked short grain rice, cooked according to package directions and cooled

12 oz bacon, chopped and fried crisp

Bacon grease

4 green onions chopped

1 large carrot shredded

2 eggs scrambled

2 cloves garlic minced

1/2-3/4 cup Soy Sauce – Reduced Sodium

Black Pepper to taste


In 3-4 qt pot fry chopped bacon until crisp. Remove with slotted spoon and set aside. Remove all but 3 T of bacon grease from pot. Add onions and saute until just tender. Add carrot and garlic and saute for another 2 minutes.

Turn down stove burner to medium. Add rice to cooked bacon,onion and carrot . Mix well. Add soy sauce while mixing.

Add scrambled egg and mix well. Add pepper to taste.
