Apple Crisp

Save this one until apple season in the Autumn. Or just mow it down  whenever you get the feeling as long as you have some ripe and tasty apples on hand.  I like this recipe because it shows just how simple it is to bake. This has “man food” written all over it. Peel and chop apples, mix everything else and then bake.

Ingredients:

4 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 medium)

2/3 to 3/4 cups packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup oats

3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

3/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg

1/3 cup butter, softened

Directions:

Heat oven to 375ºF. Arrange apples in greased square pan, 8×8×2 inches. Mix remaining ingredients; sprinkle over apples.

Bake until topping is golden brown and apples are tender, about 30 minutes. Serve warm and, if desired, with whipped cream or ice cream.

Serves 6.
